A wreath in the national colours is a traditional form of tribute — laid at the funerals of those who served, at state ceremonies and historical anniversaries. Here white and red roses are set among foliage and sprigs of fir, and the whole rests on a stand with wooden legs, so the wreath stands on its own beside a coffin, a monument or a grave. The compact, circular form and the strong pairing of colours give the composition an official, dignified character.
