A spray of white and red carnations gathered in fresh greenery — modest, traditional, made of flowers that do not wilt quickly and hold with dignity through the entire ceremony and long after. The two colours carry meaning here: white speaks of a farewell in peace, red of the heart's remembrance. The simple, elongated form means the composition can just as well be laid beside the coffin during the Mass as, later, at the grave — on the day of burial or on an anniversary.
